Super Blue Blood Moon: Full Moon in Leo Affecting the Heart Meridian - 31 January 2018

January 2018 sees he occurrence of two full moons, which is why we call this second full moon a 'blue moon'. But more is happening: it is also called a 'super moon', as it coincides with the moon's closest proximity to earth in its orbit. AND we call it a 'blood moon' because we'll have a full lunar eclipse as well. The last time such a Super Blue Blood Moon occurred was 150 years ago, and it will be a very powerful day for meditation. It is a day to lift your spirit and tune in into what is really important in your life - and for those living in the UK, that is probably not your Self-Assessment tax return...

Jai Dev Singh wrote a really beautiful piece on this: "It is often the case that the things in our life that are 'seemingly important', take precedence over that which is truly important. The drama of our life is seemingly important. Stress, anxiousness, and worry are the great masks. They disguise themselves as items of importance, and yet in the grand scheme of things they hold no substance at all. When the mind is overactive or dull, that which is illusion is made to seem very real. Thus, we are thrown off balance, and act out of our character. From this dissonant space, it is very difficult to find a breakthrough. It is a painful wheel of action/reaction, which for many, lasts a lifetime. Yet, when the life-force is lifted in the body, and when the mind is elevated into its diamond-like nature, that vicious wheel of misery will be disabled. The higher glands are nurtured, the mind is made to see the blissful nature of reality, and a new wheel -- a Wheel of Dharma -- is activated. The Dharmic life is the life of love, the life of devotion, the life of liberation."

We will also harness in this energy in our upcoming yoga retreat 2-4 February in Belgium.

This Super Blue Blood Moon on Wednesday 31 January 2018 will be in the sign of Leo - the lion - and will be governing the heart meridian. The heart meridian is considered to not only be the seat of spirituality but also the ruler of wisdom and good judgement. The heart moreover also rules clarity of speech; that is why words can touch our heart so deeply in a positive way or hurt so deeply.
When the heart is strong we radiate, especially from the eyes.

Symptoms indicating an imbalance or blockage:

• Sadness and sorrow
• Nervousness or fearfulness & anxiety
• Mental confusion & confused thinking
• Emotional ups & downs
• Various speech problems
• Insomnia
• Loss of taste
• High blood pressure
• Cataracts

"Where there is love, there is no fear. Where there is fear, there is no love." (Yogi Bhajan)

What best to eat?

• All red foods: red peppers, watermelon, cherries, red grapes, strawberries, grapefruit, red cabbage, etc.
• Bitter foods: rucola, red beets, turmeric, chocolate, green & black tea (in moderation because of the caffeine's effect on your kidneys!!), basil, Brussels sprouts, etc.

What to reduce or avoid?

• Too much bitter foods is not good
• Avoid overthinking
• Avoid time pressure - the heart suffers from this. This full moon is coinciding with the UK Self-Assessment return deadline, a highly stressful time for many. Try not to feel rushed and pressured, keep breathing and relaxing through this time.

General tips to help this meridian:

• Wear red clothes or carry red stones (red coral, garnet, rose quartz) over the heart or on the little finger.
• Hold and massage the little finger of each hand for 2 minutes.
• Think and say the key phrase “I will.”

Yoga for the heart meridian:

• Cow Mudra: Grab your hands behind your back. One arm goes over the shoulder, with the other under and behind the back. Do breath of fire for 3 minutes, then reverse the arms and repeat. If your hands don't touch, you can hold on to the ends of a small towel or cloth.
• All exercises with the arms at shoulder height or above.

There are dozens of Kundalini Yoga kriyas for the Heart Chakra. I even run 3-day retreats and 10-session private class series on this topic. Here are a few nice ones to practice:
